Repairing a broken sculpt

! Warning – Be careful when using hot electric tools and working with open flames. Read all safety instructions that come with each device and any fuels.

The goal is to bond the broken surfaces between two parts by inserting a hot tool between them

  1. Snap the head off the Klaatu wax casting

  2. Hold the head and torso together between your fingers in one hand. Alternately, press the pieces into clay and position them so they are touching at the broken parts

  3. Heat a pointed probe tool

  4. Insert the heated probe tool between the two interfacing pieces

  5. Continue around the crack, ensuring that you penetrate deep enough to make contact with the entire area of the broken surfaces. After a few welds, the two parts should be bonded enough to release your grip on the parts and rotate the model freely.

  6. Cleaned up the weld marks to restore the model to its original surface detail
